James Davis and the attorneys he works with work diligently endure to ensure that civil rights take no more abuse here in Houston in cases they are involved with. However, due to the levels of abuse their jobs are never done. Due to the absolutely overwhelmingly abhorrent conditions in Texas we are not able to take all cases. However, we will attempt to speak to every person who calls and make a referral if the case in not accepted. It is unbelievable that the year is 2007 and that justice, equality, and brotherhood is so far from us all. For those who live in the cocoon of bliss far from the impact of racism, sexism, homophobia and jingoism their influences are only one misstep away from exploding into their sheltered lives.
On A Personal Note:
Civil Rights protection is central to our way of life in civilized society. However, in today's life it is missing. Has the U.S. ever had civil rights for the citizenry? This is the question. Today we see case after case of people being deprived of the most basic freedoms in our own country. Of course many become offended when we seek to address shortcomings in our society. It is as if they take it personally as if they are the problem or are having a guilt response. Maybe we should learn something from those who defend the system currently in place. Of course when they are being held without bail, or denied medicine while in jail, or being abused by the police they will be the first one crying civil rights abuse. I believe every citizen is one night stick to the back of the head away from becoming a member of the ACLU. The central problem is that Americans have stopped caring about one another. They have focused on their differences instead of their similarities. We have been indoctrinated into a culture of violence, war, and hatred of the sick, aged, ugly and poor. That is why we can allow civil rights so hard fought for by our forefathers to be squandered by hacks of today based on rumors, half-truths, innuendo and incredible lies. We have no one to blame but ourselves for allowing them to burn the Constitution and the subsequent amendments. Never allow anyone to intimidate you or tell you that your civil rights do not matter. Never allow anyone to marginalize you. This is your country no matter where you are from or no matter what race or color you happen to be. We have witnessed the greatest period of expansion of "freedom"in the form of the information explosion, yet we have also seen the greatest explosion of dictatorial tendencies in American history. This is not simply isolated to the modern Republican party. The Democrat party has been guilty of remaining deafeningly silent to the attacks by the Republicans on civil liberties. This is their shame among many other things. How much longer will the people stand by and allow themselves to be taken advantage of by the power elite? This again is a question for anyone interested in restoring a balance to civility in our society and to those who want equality for all people.
